This content was provided by Dr. Sogawa "Dr. Sogawa is a board-certified surgeon by American Board of Surgery and completed certified fellowship of abdominal transplant surgery (American Society of Transplant Surgeons). Dr. Sogawa is a native of Japan and came to the United States in 1999 after graduating from Shiga University of Medical Science, an internship training at US Naval Hospital Okinawa, and a gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary surgery training at Tokyo Women's Medical University. He completed research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School. He completed general surgery residency at State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2002 and multi-organ transplant & hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2006. He remained at Mount Sinai Medical Center as Assistant Professor of Surgery and transplant surgeon. He joined Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2012 as Assistant Professor of Surgery. He also served as a transplant fellowship program director. Dr. Sogawa joined Westchester Medical Center as a multi-organ transplant/ hepatobiliary surgeon and serves as a surgical director of kidney transplantation in 2016. He is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at New York Medical College. His expertise includes liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestinal transplantation as well as hepatobiliary surgery such as liver resection, pancreas resection (Whipple procedure) in an open and a minimally invasive way.
