This content was provided by Dr. Rush III "A graduate of The University Medical Center, Jackson, MS, Gus A. "Sonny" Rush served as Chief Orthopedic Resident at the Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans, specializing in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Rush also spent six months at the New Orleans Children's Hospital, a Pediatric Orthopedic center. After completing his residency in 1984, he joined Rush Foundation Hospital as a third generation of Rush physicians. He founded the Rush Orthopedic Program and today serves as Medical Director of Rush Sportsmedicine. Rush is Board Certified, Board Re-Certified, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Southern Orthopedic Association, Mississippi Orthopedic Society, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Dr. Rush has published papers in the Southern Medical Journal, Contemporary Orthopedics, and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He specializes in surgery of the shoulder and knee and developed a surgical technique to improve graft fixation in ACL reconstruction of the knee. In 1987, Dr. Rush founded the Rush Sports Medicine Team, a group of Orthopedic Surgeons, Physical Therapists, and Athletic Trainers that support over thirty high schools and colleges in Mississippi.
