Lutz is the Founder and Medical Director of the Regenerative SportsCare Institute (RSI) and Physiatrist-In-Chief Emeritus for the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. Dr. Lutz is at the forefront of the regenerative medicine movement—a push toward more patient-centric, minimally-invasive, and cost-effective healthcare, with better patient outcomes. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Lutz is one of the world's leading specialists for back and spine injuries. After graduating from Drew University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1984, Dr. Lutz attended Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree in 1988. From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Lutz pursued his specialty training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, followed by a one-year Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, which he completed in 1993. In 1997, Dr. Lutz founded the Physiatry Department at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the #1 orthopedic hospital in the nation, becoming its first Physiatrist-in-Chief. Under Dr. Lutz' 15-year leadership, the department grew to become one of the largest outpatient musculoskeletal practices in the world. As the former Team Physician for the NY Mets, Dr. Lutz has successfully treated many professional athletes in the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL, as well as business leaders, entertainers, and top-performers of all kinds. He has been featured in NBC's The Today Show, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Newsweek, Oprah Magazine, The New York Post, The New York Daily News, The Epoch Times, and WNBC New York. Throughout his career, Dr. Lutz has written numerous scientific publications, book chapters, and research grants. In 2004, Dr. Lutz received the PASSOR (Physiatric Association for Spine Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation) Research Award, given to one physiatrist nationally who has demonstrated excellence in musculoskeletal research. He has consistently been named to New York Magazine's and Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors" lists for the past seventeen years running. In 2016, Dr. Lutz founded the Regenerative SportsCare Institute (RSI), a private, concierge sports medicine practice that focuses on cutting-edge biologic procedures and high-quality, same-day diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Lutz also serves as the Physiatrist-In-Chief Emeritus at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. In addition, he is a Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell and a consulting physician to the National Hockey League's Players Association."
