Dr. Benson is new to Michigan City, but not to the Midwest. Raised in Orland Park, Illinois, Dr. Benson graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago in 1978 and earned his DDS from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, Chicago in 1983. Immediately upon graduation, he accepted a commission and began a hospital based general practice residency in dentistry at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego - what he thought would be a short three years in the United States Navy. After numerous assignments including two aircraft carriers and deployments to Europe, Japan, the Far East, Middle East and Australia, his last assignment was on the teaching staff at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Upon retirement with the rank of Captain, he practiced with Marshfield Clinic in Stevens Point, Wisconsin for 4 years and returned to teaching for 3 years with oral surgery residents at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.
