Well established as one of Nashville's leading anesthesiology experts, Dr. Gilbert Carrero began his medical career in San Juan, where he received his medical degree and completed his anesthesiology internship and residency through the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr. Carrero graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Volker Striepe Teacher of the Year Award. During his career Dr. Carrero served as Medical Director of the Orthopedic Surgi Center, Deputy Medical Director of Ambulatory Anesthesia Rotation and Section Chief of Outpatient Services at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Carrero was Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and served on Pharmacy/Therapeutics and Clinical Competence committees while at Vanderbilt. Dr. Carrero is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology with specialty certifications in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. His notable experience in pain management includes expertise in acute pain, obstetric anesthesia, organ transplants and emergency services.
