Following residency he completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Wilmer Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital; he later completed a retina fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the St. John Hospital in the West Bank and a World Health Organization Fellow in the People's Republic of China. He served on the full-time faculty at several universities including the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas, and is on the clinical faculty at the Department of Ophthalmology at MCV. He has authored or co-authored several textbooks as well as numerous journal publications. He was a principal investigator or a co-investigator in numerous clinical drug trials, including the Lucentis and Eylea trials for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, as well as the SCORE trials for retinal vein occlusions."
