Dr. Markakis is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with extensive clinical, surgical, and research experience in the diagnosis and treatment of: corneal/ocular surface (dry eye, conjunctivitis) disease; external eye (lid/lash/skin) disease; cataract; glaucoma; uveitis (ocular inflammation); ocular trauma; diabetic eye disease; and refractive error (myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism/presbyopia). He has performed and presented over 15 years of ophthalmology research at national and international meetings, and has given informational talks to the general public, civic organizations, optometrists, and primary care practitioners. Dr. Markakis has also been actively involved in teaching residents and medical students, and is an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University Schook of Medicine. A native Clevelander, Dr. Markakis graduated from Ruffing Montessori, and University School, and maintains close ties to the both east and west side communities.
Dr. Markakis enjoys taking his time with patients for a thorough examination and discussion of their health. He makes sure that his patients understand what they have, how it will impact their life, and how it can be treated. Dr. Markakis enjoys providing individualized, state-of-the-art ophthalmology care to his patients without the inconvenience of being a part of a large institution. He welcomes all patients, young and old, and of all ethnicities and religions to his practice. In addition to English, he is fluent in Greek and French.
