Took 9 months to abate moderately severe pain after a hemi knee replacement. H never believed the pain was that bad. Some time later when I was in severe pain & needed help before a long trip I saw his PA who took an x-ray & showed it to him. VF said the hemi was fine & do some PT. When I arived at my new destination & was in tears with pain another orthopaedist showed me on new studies how much arthritis was under the kneecap & how the outside of the knee was bone on bone.

I chose Dr. Van Flandern based on recommendations from others. Anterior THR, three weeks ago. I've already recommended him to others. I thought he was highly responsive to my questions, highly professional, and also have been very impressed with the support that his office and staff provide. I'm sure there are many other options out there, without question I would (and do) highly recommend Dr. Van Flandern.

Just had my four/five year follow-up!! Five yrs for my bilateral hip replacements, and four yrs for bilateral knee replacements. Dr. van Flandern is not only an excellent surgeon, but also a compassionate, caring one. Yes, I have had to wait for my appt, but I have never felt rushed during my appts. He would tell me when he would not be coming to the hospital, but he would never fail to call to ask how I was coming along. My questions were always answered thoroughly!

I was appalled by his lack of compassion and professionalism. I had a hip labral repair and suffered with pain for months after surgery. He continuously downplayed my pain and was very disrespectful. Dr Van Flandern was not pro-active in my care and 9 months out I am still in pain. I was so put off by some of his remarks that I finally spoke with a mediator at New England Baptist. Unfortunately for me, he is not employed by NEBH

Dr van flandern just did my third revision of my left hip. He is an amazing surgeon who is both incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate at the same time. He happened to be off for the weekend after he did my surgery but he called me at the hospital every morning to check in with me. I am very grateful that I have him as my dr. He explained that my case is very complex but he was willing to tackle it as long as I understood that it was going to be a long and painful road.
