Dr. Gebran Abboud is Director of Gastroenterology at Conemaugh Health System. He is an Interventional Gastroenterologist who is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He specializes in the treatment of diseases of the pancreas, biliary system, liver, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions that include endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasonography, small bowel enteroscopy, enteral stenting, endoscopic mucosal resection and complex intestinal hemostasis in addition to routine upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. After matriculating as high-school valedictorian, Dr. Abboud obtained a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Highest Departmental Honors, received the University of California Regents Scholarship and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Awarded the McClelland Scholarship, he then obtained a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), where he subsequently pursued his residency in Internal Medicine. One of his honors during that period included an appointment to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Abboud completed his training in Gastroenterology at USC, an institution exemplified by its strong tradition in the study of liver diseases. He trained under the mentorship of Dr. Neil Kaplowitz and rotated in the liver service that was initiated by Dr. Telfer B. Reynolds, one of the founders of the discipline of hepatology. While at USC, Dr. Abboud received an award from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Dr. Abboud then completed his training in Interventional Gastroenterology under the mentorship of Dr. Simon Lo at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, ranked among the top five institutions in the nation for gastroenterology. Dr. Abboud is a member the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
