This content was provided by Dr. Weaver "Dr. Fred Arthur Weaver holds the title of Professor of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Weaver's education includes Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Southern California. Following graduation from medical school in 1979, he began his surgical residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee where he served as a resident in General Surgery from 1979-82, 1983-84, a Chief resident in General Surgery 1984-85, a research fellow in transplantation 1982-83 and a Vascular Surgery fellow 1985-86. He then returned to USC in 1986 as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, and was promoted to Professor of Surgery in 1999. In 1990 and again, in 1993, he received the C.J. Berne Award for Teaching Excellence from the USC surgical residents. He served as Program Director for General Surgery from 1996-2000, and has served as Program Director for Vascular Surgery at USC from 2000-2012. Dr. Weaver is also credentialed with a Masters in Medical Management which he received from USC in 2005. He is currently Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Chief of Vascular Surgery at Keck Hospital of USC, Co-Director of the USC CardioVascular Thoracic Institute, and Co-Director of the USC Comprehensive Aortic Center. Dr. Weaver also serves on various Keck Hospital committees, and is Chair of the Integrated Executive Peer Review Committee. He is also the Director of the Max R. Gaspar M.D. Symposium, an annual meeting which highlights advances in the treatment of vascular disease. Dr. Weaver is certified by the American Board of Surgery with added qualification in Vascular Surgery. He is a member of the American Surgical Association, a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and past President of the Western Vascular Society, among others. In 2014, he was President of both the Pacific Coast Surgical Association and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. In 2015, he was honored with the Society for Vascular Surgery's Presidential Citation Award. Dr. Weaver is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and on the Editorial Board of Annals of Vascular Surgery. He serves on the SVS PSO Vascular Quality Initiative Executive Committee, since 2013. He was recognized as one of the Best Doctors of America, 2005-2016, US News/Castle Connolly Top Doctors, 2000-2015, Southern California Super Doctors, 2008-2017, Pasadena Magazine's Top Doctors, 2009, 2011-2017, Top Doctors, Los Angeles Magazine, 2015, 2016, and America's Top Surgeons, 2007,2014. His scholarly contributions include over 210 articles, 43 textbook chapters, and numerous oral presentations at local, regional and national surgical meetings. His major research interest concerns the diagnosis and management of diseases which affect the aorta and its major branches with an emphasis on aortic and renal artery disease. These research efforts are complemented by an active and diverse clinical practice at Keck Hospital of USC where he performs both endovascular and open reconstructive aortic procedures."
