Dr. Yau's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Yau "Dr. Yau started Vanguard Vascular & Vein in 2011 to create a vascular surgical practice that he could be proud of and that he and his staff would enjoy coming to work. He wanted to build a practice that helped to solve patient's vascular problems and was able to just get things done. No matter what. He wanted people to come to Vanguard and keep coming back because we made them better. He wanted to build a dynamic and enjoyable place to work so that people would want to come work here. He chose the name "Vanguard" because the word is defined as "a small group of pioneers leading the way". These two aspects represents our vision. First of all, an elite group of healthcare provides by nature will be a small group. If everyone could provide excellent vascular care, then it would be a large group. However, innovative vascular care requires expertise, diligence and attention to detail. Not everyone is capable or willing to go to great lengths to accomplish this. Dr. Yau believes that this starts with excellent training. He graduated valedictorian of Plano East Senior High School, Princeton University and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is triple-board certified in Vascular Surgery, General Surgery and Internal Medicine. Secondly, this small group leads the field. We pioneered the use of the drug-coated balloon angioplasty (Lutonix) by being the first in Dallas to use this new therapy for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. We are the only IAC accredited vascular lab in our market area. We are the only vascular surgeons with current access to the new Nellix endovascular stentgraft system which will not be widely available to others until 2016. We believe in providing the best technology can offer to the treatment of our patients. Most importantly of all, Dr. Yau humbly works for you. All the training, awards, and accolades don't mean anything if you as the patient do not believe that he cares for your well-being. This is the reason why Vanguard was built."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Yau "I like to talk to my patients. I enjoy our conversations. I make sure that after our conversation is over, that you feel that the problem you came in to see me for is being addressed in a way that you understand. We keep talking until you understand what's going on and are comfortable with the decisions you are making. I am easily accessible and call patients back any time they want. Most of my patients have my cell phone number because I trust them. I believe that trust is mutual.

Talking with patients is 90% of vascular surgery. Good decision-making is the most important part of medical and surgical care. Determining when to intervene and what options to take and how to approach the problem is where good thinking is important. Sophisticated and thoughtful decision-making is what I do best.  Explaining that process to you as the patient in a manner where it is accessible and understandable is where I bring value to you and make you better.  "

in Garland, TX
Initially we were happy with Dr. Yau's diagnosis regarding my father's condition and the procedures that needed to be done to improve my dad's quality of life. However, since my father's surgeries we realize the lack of communication on Dr. Yau's part and how we were not kept in the loop about my...more
