Unless Dr. Frank Phillips is the only orthopedic surgeon in your area, I would not recommend him. Dr. Phillips gave me hope during my first and only visit with him. I came in barely able to move my neck. I was in so much pain. He acknowledged that this was all due to the bulging discs in my neck and the cushion having worn down, which he saw through my MRI scans and x-rays. He prescribed me medication, physical therapy, and referred me to another specialist to get a shot in my neck. He said if I found the treatment plan to be a waste of time after trying it for a few weeks, to call him so that they could get me into his office sooner than our scheduled 6 week follow up appointment. At that point we could talk surgery options. A day before my appointment, I received a phone call from his physician assistant. He was cancelling my appointment. He said my dizziness was a neurological issue and that I should see a neurologist. There was nothing that he could do for me. I was so confused.

Bad experience
Saw Dr.Phillips because of his numerous reviews. His assistant came in,got my information then I went for x-rays. Came back to the room and waited. Dr.Phillips arrived and didnt say hello, how are you, or anything. He asked where my 6 month or more recent mri or x rays were at. I told him I didnt have any and when I made my appointment I told his office I didnt have any and they told me it was fine because he would order his own. He then told me he looked at my x ray and could see my problem wouldnt require surgery and he was specifically a surgeon. He told me to do physical therapy for 9 weeks at 3 times a week and that he would pass me off to a pain specialist. I asked for an mri, surprisingly he wrote me an order. Fast forward a week, I got my mri and I have a badly herniated disc and now hes interested in seeing me again after my physical therapy. I will never see this doctor again and have never been treated so poorly at midwest orthopedics or by any specialist. Total time 10 min.

He is amazing I’ve had 3 spinal fusions. He has a great team of PA’s who get back to you in lighting speed. His team is outstanding, they operate like a symphony. Dr. Phillips is clearly a brilliant surgeon but has a great sense of humor, really understands what you are up against and is just a great guy. How can I say this? It’s a tough combination. I would recommend him and his team to anyone for the most difficult cases. I’ve been with them for 7 years and I can’t imagine not having that team in my ongoing issues. Joan

Surgeon Frank Phillips gave me a great and comprehensive second opinion for a pending neck surgery. He certainly seemed to be honest, forthcoming, and his skill level is difficult to match. Given his long and successful history with disc replacements I will certainly be utilizing his skills in order to gain the best outcome possible for my specific injury. I will be sure to review the outcome as well once I am fully recovered… So far I would suggest Surgeon Frank Phillips for anyone considering Cervical (Neck) disc replacement. As I do not believe there are many Surgeons that have more experience or better outcomes.

Dr. Phillips gave me my life back. He was my third surgeon in 3 years. Should have started here but lived out on the east coast and was a patient at HSS. He's nice, courteous, timely, concerned and practical. Everything about the experience was excellent including my outcome!!

2 years ago Dr Phillips fused my lumbar and literally gave me my life back after 4 specialists turned me away. More recently I broke my C2 in an accident. While some doctors warned me I would lose all sides to side motion Dr Phillips was able to perform the procedure and still give me a reasonable amount of motion. He is nothing short of amazing.

Dr Phillips , his nurse, and all the staff were awesome. Very Thorough looked over all my films and took the time to explain them to me and while there is nothing surgically to help me at this time Dr Phillips pointed me in the direction some great pain management physicians.

I was in severe pain with sciatica. Surgery was recommended and I was referred to Dr. Phillips. He stated I needed a spinal fusion and a laminectomy. He explained the pros and cons. He and his team were wonderful. The surgery was a huge success and i am no longer in any pain. Dr. Phillips stopped by to see me every day that I was in the hospital. The follow-up visits also went well.

In December 2019, I was practically crippled at times due to a disc between L5-S1 that was gone. In January 2020, Dr. Phillips operated on me via the ALIF technique. I was back on the golf course and in the gym by August as if I was never severely injured. I could not provide a higher endorsement of Dr. Phillips and the team at Rush. I am off medicine, the heating pad, and wasting days in pain. Life changer!

I had the most amazing experience with Dr. Phillips at Rush Ortho. I came here for a second opinion because I was not happy with the level of care I received at a different place. I had a completely different experience here. Dr. Phillips answered every single one of my questions and explained everything to me so that I was 100% educated and comfortable with my future procedure. I would highly recommend to any one, if you want great care and questions answered and not to feel like you are just another body, go see Dr. Phillips.

Dr. Phillips recommended a special PT therapy for my spine instead of surgery. I felt hopeful that my back pain, which I had been experiencing for three months, would resolve. He also encouraged me to call back if it did not. Although I had a long wait, I had a good experience.

He is a miracle worker. I herniated my disc in my neck in 2012. I lived in pain for 3 years before considering surgery. He did my spinal surgery and I have been pain free, now have quality of life and I can honestly say he changed my life. I would give him 10 stars if I could.
