Visit w/Dr. Hurst, October 25, 2022
This is my first review. My primary care provider referred me to Dr. Hurst in September 2020. My initial visit was with Sarah Byrd (NP-C) who performed a biopsy of a dark spot on my scalp. After receipt of the biopsy results, Dr. Hurst scheduled my surgery for October 2020. Diagnosis was malignant melanoma in situ. Surgery was successful and since then I have been visiting Dr. Hurst regularly for full body checkups. So far, so good. To date, I've been very pleased with my visits to Dr. Hurst.

Disappointed
I've been dealing with some sort of contact dermatitis for years and don't seem to be any closer to either solving it or treating it. I tend to stay they course, but their billing practices have convinced me otherwise. I'm the guy who says "All of it" when an office asks me how much of my balance I'd like to pay. I've been going every couple months and paying in full every time. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be able to figure out how much a repetitive, routine office visit should cost so there always seems to be a residual balance. They don't print an online payment option on their bills, and the office staff didn't know about it when asked. I work nights and am usually sleeping during their office hours, so I've always just paid in person. I have an appointment in week, and they've just left a voicemail that I have 24 hours to avoid a trivial balance being handed over to collections! Maybe they can figure how much to bill for no visits.

Terrible office! We show up 5min late and the receptionist scolds us that everyone is at lunch. The doctor is with another patient which means they double booked our appointment which is somehow our fault?!? And they were the ones that scheduled our appointment during their lunchtime which is also our fault?!?!? The icing on the cake is being screamed at by a Karen office manager that I am not allowed to be a part of my partners appointment. Again, something they did NOT tell us when making the appointment and again, it's our fault. Stay away from this crazy office and the awful people here.

I had a good first visit with Dr. Hurst. He was thorough, affirming, and willing to remove a mole that was not suspicious but was troubling to me in its location . I read about problems with the office staff. I had no problem whatsoever.

I have been to see Sarah Byrd on two occasions. She has been knowledgeable and professional without being cold and unapproachable. Her treatments are firm but with a gentle hand. At least for minor procedures I would recommend seeing her.

If your poor find someone else. Office staff some think they are in Palm Beach very snobby. The front office lady is very nice. I am working with a Federal funded program called Ryan White Program. Twice I have had to hear lies while waiting in lobby that Ryan white is broke and doesnt pay thier bills. Funny thing is that they are funded from 15 million and up for each state. And unless Dr Hurst staff can prove Ryan White never paid a bill to there office then stop spreading Rumors/lies. Do you not like gay people coming to your office? Just a question because a lot of Ryan White programs help the gay community. They have saved my life in the past for sure. I didnt feel I was treated right the last time or this time in your office and just stop spreading lies about a non-profit organization you have no clue about. I want to go to a Dr who staff seems to care more about the patients then about themselves. Oh my two sisters are Nurses and my Dad is a Doctor. I know dr. Office should work

The lady at the front desk is rude and argumentative with the patients. She raised her voice and called me a liar. The promises made by the staff also seem to fall short and prescription medicines are not phoned in as promised on the same day. Dr. Hurst and the two nurse practitioners are friendly and professional but, I have chosen to go out of the area for far better treatment and examinations. I would highly recommend you do the same.

I called the Martinsburg office to make an appointment with Dr. Hurst to look at a spot on my face that I was concerned about. The Martinsburg office did not have an available appointment until late May, but the lady checked and scheduled me the next day at the Hagerstown office. Wonderful customer service from that phone call forward. The staff was very nice and Dr. Hurst was wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Hurst's office to anyone who needed a dermatologist. Very satisfied! B.Dolan

NO stars recommended. This office has been very unprofessional with a situation that occured while my daughter was a patient. She is currently on WV Medicaid due to the fact that she is a College student and full time worker for Urgent Care. She has been seeing the Physician Assistant for about 5 months now and has not had any kind of relief for ailment. She requested to see the Doctor for another look at her condition and was told because of her insurance (Medicaid)she could not see the Doctor

I have been going to Dr. Hurst for several years for interventions and also follow up. He is always kind, considerate, and patient. He takes his time with each patient and answers all questions completely. He is very gentle in his treatments, which means a lot when you are having an area frozen! What a wonderful and pleasant gentleman he is, and a skilled practitioner. As a nurse of almost 40 years, I can tend to be critical of who I refer friends to, and I ALWAYS recommend Dr. Hurst!

I went to Dr. Hurst for a second opinion for sebaceous dermatitis. I found Dr.. Hurst to be knowledgeable and caring. He diagonosed my condition as sebopsoriasis. He prescribed a slightly different course of action and within a month my scalp is healthy and clear. I definitely would return to Dr. Hurst for any future dermatology problems.
