Dr. Nelson is both an incredible surgeon and a wonderful person. I have Crohn’s disease, and was dealing with excruciating rectal pain. My GI dr brushed it off as nothing, and Dr. Nelson quickly diagnosed me and had me in surgery the next day. He ended up performing 3 surgeries on me within a 6 week period, and he kept me and my family calm, managed and fixed everything perfectly, answered any and every question I had, and cared for me as if I were his own family. He is truly an angel and I am forever grateful for him. Chattanooga is lucky to have such a skilled and compassionate colorectal surgeon.

Awful, rude and totally sad that he is considered a specialist. I hope he is kinder to others than he was with me!

Dr Nelson performed an "open colectomy" on me in April 2018. A grapefruit sized mass was removed from my large intestine. The mass turned out to be cancerous. Dr Nelson saw that the location of the tumour was a risk to my life and took care of it in an expedicious manner. He is an excellent Doctor and did a great job with my surgical procedure at Memorial Hospital.

I would NEVER recommend this physician to my worst enemy, much less family or friends. The only reason I didn't give him zero stars is because I am required to select at least one. I could not, in good conscience, recommend a surgeon who comes into your hospital room displaying a patronizing manner, who gets irritated at being asked questions, or being "challenged," and who mocks things you say while making faces like a spoiled little schoolboy.

After waiting for a week for a appointment with Dr Nelson my wife's hemmroids were better. We went to the appointment to be told she qas OK and charged $595. Insurance reduced it to $455. A week later her problem returned . There were new patient charges over $150 for just showing up. Was told would be a new patient again after 3 months. What a waste of money and time and my wife still hurts. Probably more of a clinic problem overcharging then a doctor problem.

Dr. Nelson diagnosed my problem (rectal prolapse) on my first visit with him. He explained the procedure he recommended and my surgery was scheduled not long after that visit. I saw Dr. Nelson two weeks post-surgery and was given some instructions to follow. I am so thankful we found Dr. Nelson, as I've not had any problems; he is an excellent surgeon.
