Dr. Makhni was great in pre-OP visits listening to my issues I was having after other surgeries and coming up with a solution to the problem. Surgery went smoothly. The staff was great. By the very next day I was moving my shoulder in ways I could not before surgery. I feel confident with pt and some work that I'll get back to where I need to be.

Terrible experience! I had an arthritic knee, a series of three injections of Supartz was suggested. The PA who at HFHS administered the first injection hurt me, he apparently must have injected the Supartz into the wrong area, I was hurting from the injection. I saw Dr. Makhni the following week for a second round of the injection. I declined it. I asked Dr. Makhni what happened, he said that in a low percentage of cases, patients will have an adverse reaction to the drug, He did not test for this assumption that he made. He did suggest making a followup appointment with another colleague. I decided to make an appointment to a more independent physician. I eventually needed to have a total knee replacement.

Dr. Makhni gave me a diagnosis for my cuff tear that was much different than my first orthopod who said I had no option but surgery, not even short-term pt. He was clear, patient, and understanding. I was happy I went to him for a second opinion.

I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend Dr. M. During the pre-op consult he was very positive, said I was in great shape, explained the meniscus repair, said he would take care of the small area of arthritis and anything else he saw during surgery. I would be back to golf in no time. Had surgery. One week later/first post-op he told me to go off of crutches. Bad advice. Some ups, more downs followed. He doesn't return phone calls, answer questions or listen during post-op appmts. He smiles and says 'you're fine.' I remain composed. (Fortunately HFH staff & ortho drs on call are great!) 3 months later at my final post-op I told Dr. M something is still wrong, I'm still struggling. His reply "It's the best it's going to be, take Aleve and deal with it." Really?!! That's it?!! Sad, upset, dismayed I went for a second opinion & new MRI- my meniscus is STILL TORN - he should have seen it, at least during surgery. Am scheduled with new Dr for second surgery. Horrible experience.

Dr. Makhni expeditiously exhausted every option before we moved forward with surgery. He explained everything that was going to happen, in detail and answered all our questions. After surgery, he clearly described to us the outcome and what to expect each step of recovery. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone with a sports injury concern.
