This content was provided by Dr. Nemecek "Dr. Eneida Nemecek grew up in Puerto Rico, where she earned her medical degree. She moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1999 and joined OHSU in 2005. Dr. Nemecek specializes in bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies for cancer and other disorders affecting blood and the immune system. She sees pediatric patients at Doernbecher Children's Hospital and adults at the Center for Hematological Malignancies of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. She is the director of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Doernbecher Children's Hospital and co-director of the Northwest Marrow Transplant Program at OHSU. Dr. Nemecek is involved in research to increase the understanding of cancers and other diseases that can be treated with bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies. She participates in research collaborations at the local, national and international level with cooperative groups such as the Children's Oncology Group, Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium, Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. A variety of clinical trials are available for bone marrow transplant patients at OHSU. Areas of current research include: 1) Transplant regimens for pediatric cancers, immunodeficiency syndromes, genetic diseases and inherited blood disorders, 2) Prevention and reduction of transplant-related toxicities and complications, 3) Long-term outcomes of marrow transplantation, 4) Improving access to bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies.
