This content was provided by Dr. Trudo Jr "Dr. Edward Trudo, a board certified ophthalmologist, joined Chesapeake Eye Care & Laser Center in 2015. He brings over 20 years of experience in Cornea and External Diseases. In addition to this specialty, Dr. Trudo is the director of our Dry Eye Center of Excellence, which offers the most advanced, proven treatments to address Meibomian Gland Disorder (MGD) - the leading cause of chronic dry eye. Our Dry Eye Center is the only medical practice in the Annapolis area to offer LipiFlow®, the most innovative technology available to treat MGD. Dr. Trudo’s experience and personal demeanor have earned him great respect among patients and colleagues in the medical community. He has received numerous awards, including “Castle Connolly Top Doctor,” which is awarded to physicians after peer nomination, extensive research, careful review and screening by a doctor-directed research team. Dr. Trudo has published numerous articles in prominent medical journals, has delivered over 40 presentations at ophthalmology meetings, and has received approval for more than 7 Institutional Review Board Research projects from West Point, Walter Reed, and Ft. Belvoir. Prior to joining our team, Dr. Trudo served the Army in numerous leadership capacities, offering his expertise in ophthalmology. After graduating from medical school, he served as the Director of Ophthalmology Service at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia and as the Director of Ophthalmology at the U.S. Army Hospital, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. After completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Trudo was selected for the faculty of the Walter Reed Ophthalmology Residency Program where he served as an attending surgeon and the Director of the Cornea and External Disease Section. In 1999 he completed his initial military obligation and entered private practice. In 2007, Dr. Trudo was called to active duty and selected to be the Director of Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery at Keller Army Hospital, US Military Academy, West Point, New York. He served as founding director for research on ophthalmic infections and also enhancement of visual performance with refractive surgery for military tasks and elite athletes. Dr. Trudo was then selected in 2011 for assignment to the new Joint Task Force CapMed as Director of the U.S. Army Refractive Eye Surgery and Research Center, Fort Belvoir and faculty of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda ophthalmology residency teaching program. He retired as a colonel from active duty in 2013 to join the Storm Eye Institute, Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Trudo lives in the Annapolis area with his wife. In his spare time, he enjoys dinner out with friends as well as golf, fly fishing, and ice hockey."
