This content was provided by Duane Culler "I became a clinical social worker in a rather unusual way. I graduated from the Genetic Counseling Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998 and then worked at Duke University Medical Center as a cancer genetic counselor. In 2001, I moved to Cleveland to work in the Center for Human Genetics at University Hospitals, with special interests in hereditary cancer susceptibility and hereditary neurogenetic disorders. While working at University Hospitals, I recognized that many of the clients and families with whom I worked would benefit from therapeutic service as well so I decided to get a social work degree. I graduated from the Mandel School of Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in 2008, and completed post-graduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center in 2011. I worked as a clinical social worker, providing psychotherapy at the Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland from 2008 until 2013 and then joined Partners for Behavioral Health & Wellness. I provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples for mood and anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, grief/mourning/bereavement, and issues related to career and life transitions. I continue to have a special interest in working with clients and families with hereditary disorders including hereditary cancer susceptibility (hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, hereditary colon cancer); Huntington disease as well as other hereditary neurologic disorders; cancer and chronic illness. I also work with couples struggling with the issue of having a child when there is a genetic condition in the family. I am an LGBTQ-affirming therapist, and I provide therapeutic services to individuals and couples with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender concerns. "

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy; this approach uses the idea that relationships, actions and choices are influenced by the unconscious. By coming to understand this influence, we can ultimately live in more authentic and fulfilling ways.
To do this, I strive to provide a safe and welcoming place where you can explore any and all aspects of your life. Research shows that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy often continue even after the therapy is ended."
