Dr. Songer refused to see me because of my diagnosis. Highly unprofessional. Do not recommend.

You have to fill out a very lengthy application on whether he will accept you as a patient. After waiting for a week or so you are then informed he will he will not accept you and are given no explanation as to why he will not. I even have great insurance. Being diagnosed with bipolar and another psychiatrist works in conjunction with him referred Dr. Songer to dispense the medication part, he still will not accept you as a patient. His site lists the all the different diagnosis he treats. Very unprofessional that he will picks and choose who he treats. Very uncaring and with mental illness being so real, this is so sad that a person that enters this field of medicine denies treatment that a person really needs. I am counting this as a blessing in disguise because truthfully I wouldn't want to be treated by such an uncaring person. And reading reviews on other sites, I am not the only person this has happened to.

When I was a patient of Dr. Songer's, he was rarely on time and when I mentioned to the staff that I was waiting for an extended amount of time before I was seen, they laughed and acted like I was lying. After I left his care, I tried getting my medical records at the beginning of the year. I was told they would check with the doctor and call me back. Well I never heard back. I called them again in October and everything was going well until they said they would call on Monday of the next week after they talk with the doctor. I even sent a message to Songer through MyChart, but he didn't bother to reply to that either. Again, I never heard back from them until I called a couple weeks later. I never got a complete copy of my medical records, I was told they don't give medical records to patients. I find this complete B.S. because I have managed to get my complete medical records from every doctor previously. The only thing they were willing to give me was a copy of the prescription list

He seems very particular about who he accepts as a patient; you only can schedule an appointment with him after sending in an exhaustive intake form, after he reviews said form and decides whether to take you on as a patient. He takes only about 20-30 minutes for a new patient visit and 10 minutes for a follow-up visit. I got the feeling he was asking me to come back unnecessarily frequently despite my not needing any medication changes. I had only come to him to prescribe medications I have been taking for years (which are not controlled substances, just antidepressants) because I was new to the area and had not yet found a Primary care doctor who would prescribe them, like my previous primary care doctor had. But, he had me return to see him every 3 months just for refills, and I'm guessing it's because he knew it would be an easy appointment and good insurance payment for him- but a $35 copay for me. Thankfully I found a primary care doctor who was willing to prescribe my meds.

Will not accept patients who really need a psychiatrist. Our daughter filled out several exhausting pages of personal health information (turns out this is like a job application), only to be told he wouldn't accept her as a patient. When probed, the receptionist admitted it was because our daughter had been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons (anorexia) as a child. They should just advertise this up front--"we won't take patients with a psychiatric hospital record"--before wasting our time

Dr. Songer is great! He listens and really cares about the people he treats. He makes suggestions, but also lets patients have a huge say in the course of their treatment.
