Dr. O'Malley Jr's Care Philosophy

I am a third-generation orthopedic surgeon from Pittsburgh who joined Duke when Duke Orthopaedics of Raleigh was founded. I am a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and I completed my orthopaedic residency training at the University of Pittsburgh. While at the University of Pittsburgh I trained with leaders in the fields of sports medicine and total joint replacement. I have treated professional and amateur athletes including members of the Pittsburgh Steelers Pittsburgh Penguins Pittsburgh Panthers and Pittsburgh Ballet as well as athletes from local colleges and high schools. I am an alumnus of Davidson College (1986) where I met my wife Cheryl a Raleigh native. We have two high school-aged children who are involved in band running golf and tennis. We live in North Raleigh. I am an avid golfer tennis player triathlete and sports/fitness fan. The healthy lifestyle of the Carolinas is a great benefit to me because I enjoy treating athletes of all ages and skill levels.

Dr. O'Malley managed the care of my broken leg. He listened carefully to the history of the injury and, in subsequent visits, explained all phases of its healing. He was never rushed or dismissive and always found time for a bit of personal conversation at the end of each visit. I've been very pleased with his care and would recommend him to friends and family.

Performed hip replacement surgery on me five years ago. I am well pleased with the result.

next problem with O'Malley: I tried to get my medical records I brought from previous Drs and O'Malleys office said they"threw them away"! Very unethical and unprofessional! I cannot believe how poorly Duke Ortho Raleigh is run. Don't go there!!
in Youngsville, NC |
Good experience, good surgeon, flighty bedside manner.
in raleigh, nc |
Rude, abusive, and made it clear I was a waste of his time

If you're not an athlete, you will waste your time. He has a big opinion of himself.

Dr O'Malley was very dismissive of my daughters injury and pain. He brushed us off like she was a silly teenage girl. When we addressed chest pain, he said teenage girls have chest pain for a multitude of reason. I thought him to be very unprofessional. He did not even give her a complete physical exam. After seeing a UNC Orthopedic doctor in Chapel Hill she had a dislocated sternoclavicular joint. A very rare injury. I think if it's not an obvious injury he may not be able to help you.
