I had an appointment with Dr. Colvin and was very impressed with his efforts to put me at ease - then explain clearly what my health issue was. What a great combination: a competent physician and an attitude that shows he cares for his patients.

I was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer and was referred to Dr. Colvin from the Schar Cancer Institute to perform my surgery. Getting an appointment to see Dr. Colvin was quick and durning my first visit he put me at ease about the procedure that was needed. He showed me a diagram of what would take place and talked about what to expect after surgery. We met again right before surgery to confirm we were on the same page. Dr. Colvin was excellent in getting back to me when I sent him a message via the portal. I never felt I was a burden and was always a priority to him. I highly recommend Dr. Colvin. Just one of the best and I’m so grateful to him and his team.

Dr. Colvin is known to become a raging bull with his patients for any complaint from the patient. His nurse lacks the least proper communication manners when speaking to patients. When I asked her to use courtesy approach, she insisted on conducting herself like a street bully. When I requested to speak to Dr. Colvin about her unprofessional manners, he became like a raging bull and displayed the most outrageous scene by yelling and using profanities. The situation could’ve gotten worse if it was not for the CEO who diffused the situation and asked to speak to me. I called the police on this unprofessional doctor and intend to report his conduct to all applicable professional entities. I advise you not to seek healthcare treatment from this practice.

I was diagnosed to have chronic appendicitis and had Dr. Colvin as my surgeon. On pre-surgery visit, Dr. Colvin explains in details the extent of the operation and patiently listens to my concern. On the day of the operation, 3 weeks ago, his team of doctors and nurses comforted me to help overcome my fear. I woke up a few hours later - no pain The next morning I was able to exercise walking around the hospital floor, then sent home that evening. I felt a little bit pain or sore later at home when anesthesia wear off - that's all. I didn't even need any pain medicines provided by the hospital pharmacy. I am 75 , I will not have to worry about ruptured appendix for my remaining years. I was very lucky that my gastroenterologist who found my appendiceal condition recommended me to Dr. Colvin!

My wife had been suffering, with considerable pain and blood in her bowel movements, from hemorrhoids for years. The Gastroenterologist she had been seeing advised changes in diet, use of creams, etc., etc., none of which gave her any relief. Dr. Colvin, recommended by, Dr. David Schreiner, our Internal Medicine Physician, was able to determine exactly what the problem was during her first examination by him. He scheduled a colonoscopy, followed immediately by hemorrhoid surgery, in the same out-patient procedure. One month later and my wife is hemorrhoid free, no longer has to use Preparation H or any other type of cream, can have normal bowel movements without any pain or discomfort. Great guy, patient, took the time to listen and to explain. First class doctor, will go to him myself for my next colonoscopy and will recommend him to others.

Dr. Colvin found a cyst (skin tag) and removed it three weeks ago, while doing the 2d colonoscopy he has done for me in 11 years. I am very pleased that he removed the skin tag and had a biopsy done on it without waiting for me to approve the removal. I had complained about pain from what I presumed to be a hemoroid, so that was enough to justify the removal. Fortunately, the biopsy was negative, as I was informed about 17 days after the procedure. He also did a follow-up appointment three weeks later to assure that the cut is healing normally, which is very reassuring. The only shortcoming of the practice is that they did not have a record about polyps that Dr. Colvin found during a colonoscopy about 15 years ago or my family's history of polyps..

I had a difficult case for a year. Had several emergency room visited, hospital stays, surgeries and tests with different doctors. Dr Colvin came highly recommended by nurses at Inova Fairfax hospital. After meeting him for a second opinion I knew he was worth the 1 1/2 hour drive. Dr. Colvin, his team of doctors, his nurses and the front desk staff are top notch and highly trained. Dr. Colvin explains things in such great detail and I never felt unsure of anything from the first time I met him. All the other doctors and staff made the process pleasant as well. Dr Colvin is knowledgeable, thorough and has an awesome personality too! Can make you feel at ease no matter what you have already been through or how uncomfortable your case may be. I would highly recommend Dr Colvin and all the others at Fairfax Colon and Rectal Surgery.
