Dr. Nakayama has more than 20 years of experience in pediatric surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been ranked by Castle Connolly as one of America's Top Doctors®.

Dr. Nakayama has authored several books, including "Principals of Pediatric Surgery," "Critical Care of the Surgical Newborn" and "Atlas of Pediatric Surgery." He has led or participated in more than 130 research studies, which have garnered in total more than $1.1 million in grants. Dr. Nakayama currently serves as associate editor of "The American Surgeon," the official journal of the Southeastern Surgical Congress, and he served as the organization's president from 2014 to 2015.
