Dr. Rog's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Rog "Dr. Rog was born in Poland and moved with his parents and brother to the United States at the age of 5, a few months after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. "The economic prospects in Poland weren't looking great during this time, so the moment we were allowed to leave Poland we made plans to join some of our friends and relatives in Chicago," he explains. He grew up in the Windy City and attended Northwestern University, where he was first drawn to a career in medicine as a biological sciences student. "I always liked science and understood that a medicine would allow me to use my mind to solve puzzles that could actually help people," he says. "Medicine also appealed to me because I like the idea of seeing the immediate positive results of my work." After earning his undergraduate degree, Dr. Rog enrolled in medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He decided to specialize in orthopedics after shadowing a hand surgeon during his first year. "I didn't start medical school thinking that I was going to be an orthopedic surgeon," Dr. Rog says. "By the end of my first year I was fascinated with the anatomy of the limbs and upper extremities." He graduated from medical school with honors and set off for Southern California to complete a 5-year orthopedic surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Rog completed a prestigious fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Micro Surgery in Louisville, Kentucky. The Institute was the site of the world's first successful hand transplant. While there, Dr. Rog participated in a successful double hand transplant surgery. As part of the Boulder Medical Center orthopedic team, Dr. Rog will be the primary physician and surgeon for conditions that affect the upper extremities, from the shoulders to the fingers. He will treat fractures, nerve injuries, compression syndromes, tendon injuries, sprains, masses and tumors, tendinitis, fingertip and nail bed injuries, arthritis, joint replacement, arthroscopy, and more. Dr. Rog believes in involving the patient in the decision-making process during their treatment. "It's truly a pleasure to work together to help patients return to the activities they love to do," he said. After his long journey that started in Poland and continued through college, medical school, residency and fellowship, Dr. Rog is thrilled to finally live in Colorado. His parents opened a French bakery and wine bar in Colorado Springs 10 years ago and Dr. Rog has vacationed and dreamed of living here since. "I've been trying to live in Colorado for such a long time," he says. "This is the place I've visited for Christmas and Thanksgiving during my breaks from school, and I've always felt like I belonged. Now it's my home state." Dr. Rog describes himself as "a very outdoorsy person" and loves to mountain and road bike, rock climb, ski, hike and trail run. He speaks Polish and Spanish and loves to cook in his free time."
