Dr. Derek Lam was born in Canada but moved to Seattle, Washington at the age of 11. He went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he earned a Bachelor's degree with honors in Chemistry before returning to Seattle to attend medical school at the University of Washington. He stayed at UW for residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery during which time he became interested in clinical epidemiology and outcomes research and completed his Masters of Public Health. He then completed a two year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In addition to general pediatric otolaryngology, his clinical interests include the treatment of adult and pediatric obstructive sleep apnea, pediatric aerodigestive disorders including subglottic and tracheal stenosis, laryngomalacia, swallowing difficulties, laryngopharyngeal reflux, pediatric voice disorders, and velopharyngeal insufficiency. His research interests include the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea and is currently funded by a NIH K23 grant. Outside of work Dr. Lam enjoys skiing, snowboarding, surfing, soccer, and ice hockey.
