Oncology | Female | 58 years old

I have been a Board certified Oncologist, here in Sacramento for over twenty years, and still enjoy most the one on one relationship created with my patients. I was born in Manila, Philippines, and came to the U.S. for post graduate training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. I completed my fellowship training at Georgetown University Medical Center, in Washington D.C. and was privileged to be mentored by numerous excellent clinicians including Dr. Sandra Swain, known for her interest and research in breast cancer. After fellowship, I moved to Los Angeles and joined a specialty group practice at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. In 1994, I moved to Sacramento to work with a 7 person hematology and oncology practice. Throughout my career and especially in Sacramento, I have been blessed to work with same- minded professionals who strive for compassionate and excellent patient care. I was nominated by the medical community and honored with the 2015 Golden Stethoscope Award from the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society. In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband of twenty two years, cross stitch, shop at Nordstrom and read a good book. I am a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology.Read more

Care Philosophy

When a patient presents with a new cancer diagnosis, I clarify the potential goals of treatment, cure or palliation. If cure is the goal, it means 100% eradication and permanent removal of the disease. Palliative treatment controls cancer activity while preserving quality of life. Oncology has evolved to be a complex specialty and other specialties like pathology, surgery and radiation are involved at all stages of workup and treatment. I usually review the most up to date information using peer-reviewed databases like National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) clinical practice guidelines. Family is encouraged to attend appointments, take notes, and ask questions. It is important for the patient and his/her family to be informed of the natural history of the cancer, prognosis, treatment options, and side effects of treatment. This would allow them to make the most appropriate decisions about their care.Read more
