Debashis Biswas | Semmes Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute Debashis Biswas was born in Calcutta (currently known as Kolkata), India in 1963. He got his medical degree from R G Kar medical College in 1985. For ten years he trained in trauma and orthopedics in various institutes in India and UK . He came to the US in 1996 which was in " the decade of the brain". There was a lot of new propaganda about developments in the world of neurosciences and the mysteries of the brain and spinal cord. This influenced him to consider a career in neurology. He entered and completed residency in neurology at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA . He was the chief resident of the program in the year 2000. On completion of his neurology residency he started working as a general neurologist as the wide spectrum of neurological disorders interested him tremendously. He practiced in Philadelphia for three years before moving to this area in 2003. He remains fascinated with general neurology and continues to practice as a general neurologist. He likes to have a more hands on approach in his patient care and also greatly enjoys interacting with his patients. He also enjoys teaching medical students and residents. He is passionate about traveling and cinema. He also enjoys reading and photography. His favorite authors are Oliver Sacks, V S Ramachandran and Wilbur Smith. He lives in Germantown, TN with his wife Monami , 3 sons – Aditya, Ishan, Adrish and a dog named Simba.
