As a cardiologist, I firmly believe in reducing someone's risk for heart disease by modifying and treating their risk factors like: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity and diabetes. Some risk factors cannot be modified like age, sex and genetics. I also believe that not everything needs to be treated with drugs but often times the research will demonstrate that medication's benefits will outweigh their potential risks. I prefer an approach of treating the ENTIRE patient.
