Dr. Rideout's Care Philosophy

I believe in a thorough evaluation of a patients condition as being the best method of achieving the correct diagnosis. Once this is accomplished, I believe it is very important to discuss the condition with the patient and their supporting loved ones in a way that they have a good understanding of what is going on. From there, we can discuss options for treatment, the risks, benefits and outcome of each option so the patient can make a good informed decision regarding how they want to proceed. In the end, it is always the patients decision in choosing how they want to treat their condition.

Dr. Rideout says...

I have been blessed with the opportunity to train with some of the most renowned surgeons in various surgical specialities.  My training has included an unusually high volume of experience in performing complex surgeries.

Throughout my training and career, I have pursued training in Minimally Invasive Surgery.  I have been trained by Dr. Carl Zucker and Dr. William Bailey in Baltimore, MD as well as receiving advanced training in Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery in Paris, France.  During my training, I was probably the first physician in Canada trained in minimally invasive surgery.  I have brought that expertise to Maine and have performed some of the first Laparoscopic colon resections and Thoracoscopic lung & esophageal resections in the state.

I have developed a reputation for an expertise in the more complex minimally invasive surgical procedures including anti-reflux surgery and complex, multi-recurrent hernia surgery.
