David Piccioni, MD, PhD, is a certified neuro-oncologist and board-certified neurologist who specializes in treating primary and metastatic tumors of the brain and nervous system. He also has expertise in treating the neurological complications of cancer and the side effects of brain cancer treatment, such as headaches and seizures.As an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Piccioni conducts research to translate discoveries into novel treatments and clinical trials, and to determine markers of treatment response. He focuses on molecular and genetic profiling of individual tumors and using this knowledge to develop personalized target therapy.Dr. Piccioni’s post-doctoral training included a neurology residency at University of California Los Angeles, as well as fellowships in clinical pharmacology and neuro-oncology, also at UCLA. He earned his medical degree and a doctoral degree in neuroscience at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Piccioni is board-certified in neurology and clinical pharmacology. He holds certification in neuro-oncology from the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.
