    Nature of Complaint: OUT OF STATE CLAIM: SC. Reported by the North Carolina Medical Board INCIDENT LOCATION: GREENVILLE, SC /// PRACTITIONER COMMENTS: A 39 year-old male presented to Emergency Department at 8:36 a.m. with symptoms suggestive of a panic attack. The symptoms had resolved and were not present while the patient was in the ER. The patient had just undergone a negative DVT study of lower extremities. The patient was discharged with a diagnosis of palpitations (likely due to panic attack). D-dimer was not available until 11 AM. MD had no further invovement in this case. The patient presented to Downtown ER at 12:32 p.m. after having a recurrence of symptoms at home. At that point he underwent a CT scan and was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. The pulmonologist administered Lovenox at 5:30 PM. However, the patient died at approximately 7:04 p.m. of pulmonary emboli. The case was settled with no admission of liability.
