Dr. David Hnida's career is most clearly defined by his body of work as a primary care physician and a broadcast journalist. He currently serves HealthONE's primary care practices across the Denver area. Dr. Hnida received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania before continuing his education in medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Board certified by the American Osteopathic College of Family Practice since 1983, he completed his residency at Presbyterian / St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver. After his residency, he continued to work as a primary care physician at the Steadman-Hawkins Orthopedic Group and later atSwedish Medical Center. Dr. Hnida forayed into broadcast journalism in 1989 when he became a medical reporter for KCNC-TV, Denver's CBS affiliate, a position he holds to this day. He also serves as the medical editor for CBS4 Denver, as well as a medical contributor for CBS News in New York and a sports medicine contributor for ESPN on a national basis. In addition to his journalistic pursuits, Dr. Hnida has experience serving as a physician for the Department of Health and Human Services. Since 2001, he has also lent his talents to the National Disaster Medical System. Dr. Hnida's distinguished career is augmented by his service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, where he served two tours of duty in Iraq as a combat and trauma surgeon. He also deployed to Afghanistan and several countries in the Middle East. His best-selling book detailing his time spent in the military, "Paradise General," was published in 2010. In his free time, Dr. Hnida enjoys running, surfing and practicing martial arts, as well as enjoying time with his family and dog Beetis.
