Dr. Cutler's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Cutler "David Cutler, MD was inspired to enter the field of Family Medicine by the poetry of Robert Frost. In The Road Not Taken, Frost tells the reader, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” In The Death of the Hired Man, Frost explores the obligation of society to care for its least protected members. Originally from Boston, Dr. Cutler graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and received Honor grades from Tufts University School of Medicine. While many of Dr. Cutler’s classmates pursued careers in medical and surgical subspecialties at academic medical centers on the East Coast, he traveled west to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for additional training. He then spent almost four years in rural Alabama, fulfilling an obligation of a National Health Service Corps scholarship. Afterward, Dr. Cutler sought adventure--medical and otherwise--on all seven continents. He explored international health during periods of practice in New Zealand and Myanmar. Dr. Cutler now serves as Chairman of the Santa Monica Family Physicians medical group and has been a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for 26 years. As a primary care physician, Dr. Cutler has embraced the concept of a patient-centered medical home which Frost succinctly describes, “Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.” According to Dr. Cutler, “The ideas of following an unconventional path and viewing health care as a right have formed the basis for my philosophy of life, the practice of medicine, and the formation of Santa Monica Family Physicians to provide the highest quality health care.” Since the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Dr. Cutler has made yearly trips there to provide medical care, engage in teaching, and conduct academic research. The clinic where he works in Haiti is the Henri Gerard Desgranges Clinic and his work is featured on the clinic website www.friendsofhgdhaiti.org. Dr. Cutler’s family medicine practice focuses on his own personal interests of sports medicine, travel medicine and cardiovascular health. He's experienced in the evaluation and management of acute and chronic injuries. His office is equipped with a cardiac treadmill for exercise stress tests. And he can perform travel health consultations including vaccines and malaria prescriptions for exotic travel. David and his wife, a clinical psychologist, have been married since 1984. Their three grown children reside in Los Angeles with sons employed in cloud software and commercial real estate. Their daughter is in medical school. The Cutler family enjoys adventurous family vacations skiing, boating, scuba diving and exploring distant cultures. "

Dr. Cutler is very experienced and knowledgeable. I followed him from ucla to providence. I think they are still getting used to the new place. It takes me 1 and half hour to get to his office. I am glad to continue with him. But I find that he has too many patients and not enough room. There...Read More
