This content was provided by Dr. Cass "Dr. Cass has moved to the Cleveland Clinic where he serves as Director of Fetal Surgery. He was former faculty in the Departments of Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he worked for the past 18 years. In Houston Dr. Cass was Co-Founder of the Texas Children's Fetal Center when it was only 1 of 3 centers in the world to perform successful open fetal surgery for life-threatening fetal malformations (CCAM and sacrococcygeal teratoma). Dr. Cass is a pediatric general and thoracic surgeon with particular expertise in the surgical care and treatment of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), lung malformations (CCAM, sequestration), ECMO, esophageal atresia, chest wall deformities (i.e. pectus excavatum), minimally invasive surgery, newborn surgical conditions, omphalocele, and ovarian disorders. Dr. Cass' research and expertise is extensive. He is a former NIH-funded research investigator for study of scarless fetal tissue repair and fetal vascular wall healing. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and 170 abstract presentations at national or international meetings. He has lectured nationally and internationally, generally on topics related to fetal surgery and the care of fetuses and infants with lung masses, CDH, abdominal wall defects and other congenital disorders.
