I did not have a positive experience with Dr. Zandman. He was the first GI doctor that I had seen when I was diagnosed with UC. During an endoscopy procedure with him, it occurred to me I wasn't going to be put under light anesthesia (which I prefer during these procedures). I asked him about it and he replied that it would be quick and I didn't need it. Not only was I awake and in pain during the procedure, but he was blasting rock music in the room. It was one of the most uncomfortable medical experiences I've ever had. After that I immediately switched doctors. When I started seeing my new GI doc I asked if she uses anesthesia for patients during endoscopies and she replied "of course! we want to make sure you're comfortable". It occurred to me that Dr. Zandman does not prioritize this for his patients, nor did he take the time to thoroughly explain the medication/options that he was recommending for me. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone.

I like the doctor, but what is wrong with the office staff? I was chastised by staff for asking a drug rep (who arrived with food bribes for the office after I showed up for my booked appointment) why she deserved to see the doctor before I did. And yes, she did get to see him first. Today, I called at noon with a question about my colonoscopy, and the answering service snapped, "They're at lunch!" Not, "Sure, I can take a message," but "They're at lunch." I said, "OK, I'd like to leave a message." After leaving my name and number, I asked when they would be back from lunch, and the answer was, "In an hour and 45 minutes." I said, "Sorry, I won't be here then, so I don't need to leave the message." The service responded with attitude, as though I had wasted her time. Sorry, I didn't realize that people at Mount Auburn get 105 minutes for lunch! That's more than three times what I've ever gotten, so it didn't occur to me as a possibility. Mount Auburn, get your act together.

He spent quite a bit of time with me and answered many questions. he seemed knowledgeable and up to date. He is a little bit brusque, which I didn't mind but some people might.

Doesn't follow up without repeated reminders by the patient. Does not respond to patient questions. No physical examination of patient. Does not demonstrate a caring attitude; seems aloof.
