My mother had a stoke in august of 2011 at the age of 44 which was caused by a brain aneurysm. My mom had battled with alopecia for years and at the time of her stroke her hair was the longest it had been in probably 6+ years. I asked Dr. Surdell if there was anyway around shaving her entire head and he went in and did a special cut so they barely took any hair off at all. He is a wonderful surgeon and a wonderful human being. Thank you for all you did for my mom and for communicating so much.

My case was one of those rare cases where after reviewing the MRI they were wondering how I was even up and walking. Needless to say I was immediately scheduled for a consultation. He was in surgery so I actually saw his PA. I went into surgery the next morning. My procedure was a "microendoscopic discectomy". Finally after more than two months of worsening pain I awoke pain free. While I had minimal contact with him I am very glad I was able to get expedited care. Pain free for 2+ years.

Dr. Daniel Surdell is a 5+ star neurosurgeon. I had lost feeling in my hands/fingers for almost a year, a brain/cervical MRI confirmed I had a 3.7 cm spinal (Schwannoma) tumor ( located on my C1-C2) vertebrae. He has a great personality with a very caring heart, he took the time to explain my situation & answered all of my questions related to my 8+ hour surgery to remove the tumor. After 12 weeks of healing and recovering, I have the feeling back (Praise God!) I HIGHLY recommend him.

Dr. Surdell was my surgeon when it became necessary to remove a Chondra Sarcoma from my brain. Surgery was completed on Dec. 19, 2011. I was home without any discomfort by Christmas Eve, 5 days later. Dr. Surdell is a great surgeon. He is very fine person. Compassion, friendly, courteous, professional and intelligent would be a few of his attributes. I would highly recommend him and his staff follows suit.

Dr. Surdell took care of my husband following a carotid artery tear causing an extensive subarachnoid hemorrhage. I am an administrative RN with 30 years experience and all I can say is that he took the time to explain things to me which seems to be the exception today. His care at the UNMC neuro ICU was stellar
