I was in severe lower back pain in October of 2019. Dr. Refai looked at an MRI I had done and admitted me to the hospital the next day for extensive testing. It was determined I had a plasmacytoma that had fractured my L4 vertebrae. An oncologist took over from there to treat the cancer. Once treatment was complete I still had the lower back issue to deal with. Dr. Refai performed a laminectomy, spinal fusion and also put some rods in pins in my back. Immediately after surgery I was able to stand up straight for the first time in six months. I am now three weeks out from surgery and am walking well and in much less pain than I was. I am confident that I will continue to improve. I would highly recommend Dr. Refai and his team.

I’ve had two prior Cervical fusions by other physicians; however, Dr. Refai out performed them both. I deeply appreciate how in-depth he went into explaining the procedure and the possible consequences. He and his staff’s bedside manner is priceless. I am VERY pleased with the outcome. Initial evaluation - realistic about outcome with surgery; this was a second opinion and I preferred the options offered. Thorough eval and followup the next day after review of studies with entire staff. Have had one followup visit; making good progress with in home therapy and referred for outpatient therapy to continue work on balance and muscle strength/use.

Two years ago my husband had surgery with Dr. Refai and this January I had back surgery also. I find that he is a very positive, enthusiastic person who inspires confidence in his patients. He takes pride in his work and does a great job. His office staff and all those that work with him in his practice are very kind, and caring. He never made me feel as if I had too many questions or that the time he was taking was not well spent. I have recommended him to several friends and will continue to do so. I do not think you could choose a better doctor.

Dr. Refai is the best neurosurgeon nationwide in my opinion. He is an expert in his field, with a wonderful group of nurses and residents supporting him. After my cervical fusion surgery there was immediate improvement. I had put this surgery off for years due to fear. But Dr. Refai calmed my fears with information, care, support and understanding. I would not have anyone else perform this surgery on me but Dr. Refai. I have been given a new beginning by my God, Jesus and the expertise and skills God place in Dr. Refai and his entire team. I am truly blessed and thankful. Surgery Date: January 27, 2020.

Dr. Refai was amazing. He put me at ease before surgery, giving me all the information I needed to make an informed decision. He is knowledgeable, personable, and easy to talk to. He took his time to answer all of our questions. After surgery, he was just as terrific. My surgery was a huge success and we both celebrated my outcome. I would recommend him to anyone who is experiencing excruciating back pain. He saved me!

Dr. Refai was excellent. In layman's terms, he explained why I needed surgery, the type of surgery necessary, and the surgery procedure itself. After surgery, he explained what he did, the surgery was successful, with followup instructions. Kate, his nurse was wonderful. She cheerfully, professionally and knowledgeably answered all inquiries and questions. A real pleasure!

Upon first meeting Dr.Refai and his team I was a year into disc herniation and was experiencing debilitating nerve pain in my left leg. From the second I met Dr.Refai I knew I was in good hands because he CARED. He was understanding and I didn't feel like just another patient file. After My MRI I came back to see him in even more intense pain (nausea this time) and he immediately scheduled me for emergency surgery that Monday. The process with checking in, the pre op, surgery and post op was breeze in comparison to the pain I had been suffering the 5 weeks prior and it was all thanks to him! He came to my hospital room a few hours after surgery to check on me and let me tell you... I stood straight up for the first time in weeks AND I WALKED. I can't thank Dr.Refai enough for giving me my life back and making me feel like I had a friend, who cared, that could 'fix' me. Weeks after surgery I healed great and he answered all my questions! Im so grateful and couldn't recommend him more!

Dr. Refai and his staff went above and beyond in moving my cervical spine surgery forward to address my pain issues. My wife and I were totally instructed on the diagnosis, treatment plan, hospitalization and post op care. Surgery and hospitalization went without issues, and my recovery has been uneventful.

Dr. Refai did my spine surgery and he fully explained my options before I agreed to the procedure. after the operation he was there to check on my progress and condition and see if there was anything that he could do to be of further assistance. As a result of his careful and skilled services I have healed well and can now progress to the rest of my medical treatments. Dr. Refai and his staff were constantly attentive to my questions and always responded to any need I had. They provided me the medical services I required and I would most assuredly recommend Dr. Refai and his staff to anyone that needs spine surgery.
