Dr. Mears did a total hip on me and I needed a revision 3 years later. Not exactly what one would call quality work!

I like to add to a review I originally did on 4-18-16. After going to multiple Doctors about the injury Mears did to me. I found out Mears made my leg much longer during his surgery and thus severely stretched 3 tendons in my leg which in turn basically destroyed a leg muscle after so much time elapsing. I in turn wrote 2 letters to him about what I found and would appreciate a response. He ignored me and basically left me to suffer. This Doctor after destroying a persons life can not even give a response and apology because of his arrogant ego.

Hip,hip, hooray!!! I had a total hip replacement on July 29, 2019 by Dr. Dana Mears at UPMC Shadyside. I am amazed at how little pain was involved and how quickly I have recuperated from the surgery. This is the go-to doctor and hospital for hip surgery.

I have been a patient since 1989. Reconstructed hip and pelvis, (abduction/reduction) total hip replacement, revision. I couldn't have been more fortunate being life flighted to UPMC Presby and landing Dr. Mears. It took his skill and expertise to treat me. He had me walking in a couple of months; eventhough my injuries were very dire. He is the greatest. Mark Cimini, New Castle PA

2 hips .... first 2004 and second 2011. I can't believe the results. No pain and going strong 13 years later. I don't think you could find a better team. For someone who was very apprehensive in the beginning I am grateful that I picked the right surgical team.

Because of Dr. Mears, I've been able to live a normal life. He saved my foot! He's done several operations on me and I trust him with my life. I just flew from Vegas to Pittsburgh 2/24/2017 for HIM to do my hip surgery. I could NEVER trust anyone but HIM. He's direct, detailed, specific with outcome and he's honest. Our hard one was fusing my foot. I was 22, and no heels wasn't what I wanted to hear. But he supported me, wiped my tears and we made it through. But I HAVE MY FOOT. I LOVE HIM.

I was so excited to get a new hip. He actually said yes. That was the only good part, and getting home same day of operation. Getting to his office was horrible, wait time was horrible, trying to get someone to answer his phone and returning calls horrible. A year later I do have very little hip pain (I'm 41), however my leg itself feels like someone just hit it will a ballbat 24/7 I went back to see him 4Mo later he tells me it is what it is. Seeing a new guy tomorrow

He is the MOST EFFICIENT, FANTASTIC SURGEON who has EVER worked on me. The anesthesia team was also FANTASTIC. He is an excellent, skilled surgeon who surrounds himself with people who are also the best! There are no words I know to express my gratitude to him for my left hip replacement. He is a miracle-maker!
