Dr. Bahler's Care Philosophy

In walking with my Father through heart disease and cancer treatments and my Mother through a recent motor vehicle collision, I was reminded just how important both empathy/understanding and surgical skill are in our physicians. My goal is to listen and understand my patients and provide the highest level of medical and surgical treatments. My grandfather used to say, "there's a way to do it better, find it." I studied biomedical engineering in undergraduate studies with a desire to learn problem solving. I had the privilege of working on a "discovery team" to engineer new medical devices at Cook Medical, Inc prior to starting medical school. During my Robotic and laparoscopic training I took extra classes and obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Research to be better equipped as a surgeon researcher. My goal is to never stop looking for better ways to diagnose and treat urologic problems.

Dr. Bahler posses an excellent bedside manner. When you hear that you have a very aggressive cancer, one can have serious emotional swings. Dr. Bahler really put me at ease, explained my situation, options and potential outcomes with my cancer. He performed surgery after reviewing my options with me, my wife and daughter (who is a nurse). I have every confidence that he did a professional job, as well as most surgeons, and hopefully better than most.

It two just two visits for Dr. Bahler to find the problem with my kidneys and suggest a treatment plan

Not only is Dr. Bahler an excellent clinician, but he treated me as a HUMAN BEING - a rare commodity, sad to say, in today's hurried medical field. I came to Dr. Bahler with a complicated medical history that made a typical condition harder to heal. He found appropriate, yet creative ways to care for my health safely. Other doctors should take a lesson in professionalism from him. His staff was very kind too. I've never done a survey before, but wanted to give this doc much-deserved credit.

Dr. Bahler says...

Dr. Bahler's interests are urologic cancers including kidney, prostate, and adrenal and benign urologic diseases including urinary obstruction and stone disease. Dr. Bahler prefers a personalized approach to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer by utilizing new blood tests in addition to PSA and advanced imaging (MRI) to guide prostate biopsies. His research is focused on the treatment of kidney cancer, preserving renal function during kidney surgery, and new minimally invasive surgical technologies. Dr. Bahler enjoys promoting personalized medicine by building customized three-dimensional computer models for his patients to better understand their tumor and help in sparing as much of their kidney as possible during tumor removal. He is also involved in testing a targeted fluorescent imaging agent for kidney cancer that will hopefully "light up" the tumor allowing surgeons to better see the tumor during surgery and also see tumor metastasis in more advanced cancers.
