Reported by the Virginia Board of Medicine INCIDENT LOCATION: CHARLESTON, WV /// PRACTITIONER COMMENTS: Fetal SVT causing ascites occurred at 31-32 weeks EGA. I provided appropriate MFM consultative care per accepted practice guidelines. Fetal SVT resolved with the recommended maternal IV digoxin therapy. Urgent preterm delivery at 32 weeks due to fetal bradycardia complicated the serious problems caused by fetal SVT. Neonatal complications ensued.

    GOAL AND VISION: Our goals at Central Virginia Perinatology are to: 1. provide excellent, up-to-date and evidence based consultative Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) care to pregnant and non pregnant women of child bearing ages at high risk for obstetrical and medical or surgical complications during their pregnancies; 2. provide a local and readily accessible consultative MFM practice to primary OBGYN providers and their patients in our community and referral areas; 3. achieve the best maternal and fetal outcomes possible; 4. counsel patients regarding realistic expectations of their pregnancy course and outcomes and provide support when adverse outcomes occur; 5. collaborate with neonatology and other adult and pediatric specialties to achieve coordinated and seamless patient care. We strive to provide this care in an individualized, supportive, professional and compassionate manner. Patient and family participation is expected and encouraged. Areas of expertise: Management of pregnancies at high risk for medical or obstetrical complications, Prenatal diagnosis: advanced ultrasound examinations, amniocentesis, CVS, noninvasive screening, Premature birth, premature labor, incompetent cervix, Diabetes Mellitus in pregnancy, Management of patients with recurrent pregnancy losses and other adverse outcomes.
