Dr. White graduated AOA from Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1978 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology at Letterman Army Medical Center from 1978 thru 1983. He then joined the Staff of Letterman Army Medical Center as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Director of Cardiovascular Research in 1983. He became the Director of the Catheterization Laboratory at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Director of Cardiovascular Research in 1985 until leaving the military to become Director of the Catheterization Laboratory at Ochsner Clinic in 1988. In 1994, he became the Director of Invasive Cardiology for HCI Medical Center in Glasgow, Scotland until returning to Ochsner in 1997. He currently serves as Professor of Medicine and System Chairman of Cardiovascular Diseases. He has received teacher of the year awards at Letterman and at Ochsner. He was recently honored as the Physician Leader of the Year at Ochsner. Dr. White was Editor-in-Chief of Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions between 2000 and 2010. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and presented more than 150 scientific abstracts. His major interests have centered around "device" development and include the co-invention of a coronary angioscope, a laser angioplasty catheter, and the Wiktor™ coronary stent. Another major area of interest has been the integration of coronary and peripheral vascular interventional therapy including the clinical utility of renal and carotid stents, limb-salvage angioplasty, pharmacologic and mechanical thrombolysis for acute ischemia, and acute stroke intervention. His current research interests involve the detection of biomarkers for vascular disease, the utililty of ablation devices for hypertension and the development of percutaneous heart valves. Dr. White maintains an active clinical referral practice evaluating and treating patients with coronary, peripheral vascular, neurovascular, valvular and structural heart disease.
