We see a lot of teenagers have scoliosis. And I operate on teenagers. And I also brace teenagers to correct the scoliosis. Maybe I'm not as hip as I think I am, but I seem to be able to relate and understand how they feel, and make both the parents a...

I have told Dr. Dewald several times that he is my hero. He was able to get my nerve pain relieved, so now, two years post surgery, I am fully functional. I especially liked Dr. Dewald's kindness and explaining everything so I could understand. I highly recommend this surgeon.

My first visit with Dr. DeWald was unbelievably great. He presents himself quite well. He has patience, humor, and a very kind demeanor. From most of his reviews, I believe him to be a very talented and successful surgeon. He had no problem communicating with my husband and me. Having said that, patients need to remember that he doesn’t know us and needs to ask lots of questions, yes, sometimes even more than once. I enjoyed my first meeting with Dr DeWald and look forward to working with him.

Dr. DeWald has been a very solid, informative, knowledgeable, caring, compassionate and precise to the point surgeon, as far as explaining things, litening to my concerns, making sure I feel confident about his answers and is very thorough in his pre op and post op care. The surgery was a success as he did a full posterior Thoracic Fusion w Laminectomy and the pain I had for the past 20 years is gone. I am in week 5 of healing and although recovery is very painful at times, I am getting better

Dr. DeWald My name is Yvonne Florence ;You performed surgery on me when I was a teenager. I am 57 years old and I am now just starting to have pain in my back. You are excellent in your field. I am thinking about coming back to Chicago for a second opinion. I know that I should have come to you first but I live in Cleveland, Ohio. All I wanted to say is THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Dr Dewald was proficient to the point that he is able to see a problem and not charge for unnecessary tests. However, he had a poor bedside manner and never asked if I had questions or understood what he said. I had to ask him my one question in the hallway after trying slow him down from leaving the exam room.

I have degenerative disc disease and have had back issues for the last 20 years. Dr. DeWald successfully operated me 3 years ago, and I completely trust him to resolve a current issue I’m having. I was referred to him by another trusted physician and I am am very thankful for that. He explains things well, presents the options and I completely trust his recommendations!

Severe mis-communication! For my part, I can't remember dates of previous injections, therapy, etc, nor the specific types and details from 18 years ago! For his part, he never asked for previous records of those things. Keeps asking the same questions, presumably to trip up the patient, like being cross-examined. Pounded on questions about where my money comes from and how I own so much. Does he need extra income, or am I SUPPOSED TO BE INDIGENT? Wasted 6 hrs of driving and 6 hrs in waiting!

When I was a little girl was diagnosed with scoliosis a s curve, saw Dr Ronald Dewald until I moved to Arkansas, at that time was recommended to a spine specialist in Little Rock Arkansas, moved back to Illinois and saw Dr Ronald Dewald until he retired and Christopher took over his practice, I have been seeing Christopher for the rest of my scoliosis the low back which came out of remission, Christopher did my 2nd surgery, I highly recommend him. He is a excellent surgeon like his father.

As my scoliosis worsened in my early 30s, I had my first extensive spinal fusion. It lasted 30 years, but the next lower lumbar level began to deteriorate and I was in extreme pain. Dr. DeWald and his team performed a complicated procedure to revise my old lower fusion to connect to the new instrumentation. Five years later I am still flexible and almost pain-free. I believe only Dr. DeWald and the Rush medical system could provide this expert care to give me my life back.

I've seen more than a few doctors in my lifetime, Dr. Dewald and his nurse Pat were outstanding. Few doctors in this day and age take the time to really listen and understand their patients issues. This doctor does. He spent quite awhile going over my 25 plus years of issues. Very impressed.
