He specializes in minimally invasive surgery and arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. Dr. Smith has extensive experience with athletes of all ages, sports and levels of competition. Dr. Smith completed a sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, where he worked with world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. He assisted as a team physician for the Auburn University football team, and also cared for the Alabama Ballet, USA Cheer, WWE professional wrestling, the Birmingham Barons (AA-affiliate for the Chicago White Sox), and Birmingham area high school teams. He graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University and earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He was an assistant professor in Orthopaedics specializing in sports medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he helped take care of collegiate athletes at the University and at several other colleges in Arkansas. In addition, he completed extra training to treat cartilage injuries in the knee with articular cartilage implantation and meniscal transplantation. He has completed research on biceps tenodesis in pitchers. He has a special interest in rodeo-related injuries as he is a member of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association and actively competes in steer wrestling."
