1st consult impression (fit me in less than 24 hrs after abnormal labs I have had for 10 yrs but (sounds like "Mizer") told me were normal - it blew my mind): Very thorough, kind, actually got my jokes and covered my medical history back to age 3 and I am in my 40s. Gave me some much-needed relief of the stress that comes with a medical system that has not listened to me - something that is critical in a disorder exacerbated by stress. He has given me hope after a long and painful road of doubt and feeling invisible. I have only been with OHSU for a few months and the improvement in the care I have received is night and day. I didn't even have to ask Dr. Vanek for the tests I previously had repeatedly requested and was denied for over four years from "Mizer." He made me feel seen and heard - a human right. I can't tell you how incredible that alone has made me feel. I highly recommend Dr. Vanek after one thirty-minute phone call; he seems to be one of the good guys.

I began my treatment with Dr Vanek at the onset of Covid: So I have never met him and have only communicated through phone and MyHealth email. That said, I am so grateful for his swift responses and quick response to concerns. So far he has ordered tests to get to the bottom of my symtoms and test results. He has personalized my care during a very impersonal time. Highly recommend.

Dr. Vanek was professional and compassionate. He thoroughly went through all of my records and then asked about what I have researched and what other doctors have told me. He listens!! It was a great experience. I've seen many doctors who I felt didn't listen so today's visit was a breath of fresh air.

He didn’t even read my intake sheet. Was condescending and dismissive after waiting 3 months to get an appointment. I would never recommend him

This MD is remarkably ignorant about hypothyroidism causes & treatments. Without looking for evidence to prove his position, he's insisted for five years that I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Never mind that he's never tested my autoantibodies to seek proof that this is the correct diagnosis for me. I've paid, out of pocket, 3 times to have both types of thyroid autoantibodies tested on me. Each time, the labs indicate that there is no evidence of any form of thyroid autoimmune disease in me.

I had a terrible time getting on medication for hypothyroidism. Dr. Vanek knew right away what my difficulties were and prescribed the right medication for me. And if you need to ask questions later, he always responds quickly through ohsu messages. I will always be grateful for his help. I highly recommend this physician!

I "bounced" between several Doctors and Residents for 1+ years before I had the extreme fortune to meet Dr. Vanick. He is extremely knowledgeable about Grave's Disease. He answers all my questions with thoughtful, easy to understand responses. He reviews my case history BEFORE I walk into his office so he does not have to waste time during my appointment reading my history. He reviews my other medical issues so as to have a comprehensive view of me as a patient. I would highly recommend him.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Vanek. He is an amazing doctor. After years of searching for a diagnosis, I saw Dr. Vanek and he discovered what was wrong with me in a very short amount of time. He literally gave me my life back. He ran the right tests and methodically ruled out possibilities to find the correct answers. One of the most valuable things he does is really take the time to listen, believe the patient and thoroughly go through your symptoms to discover the cause(s).
