This content was provided by Dr. Laituri "Dr. Carrie Laituri is a fellowship-trained board-certified pediatric surgeon and general surgeon who has worked in healthcare for more than 20 years. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. She completed her education and training as a certified clinical perfusionist at John's Hopkins and subsequently held the position at Mayo Clinic, where she focused on pediatric ECMO and pediatric cardiac bypass and hypothermic circulatory arrest. Dr. Laituri completed her general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. During residency, she completed a pediatric surgery research fellowship as a research scholar at Children's Mercy Hospital focusing on pediatric surgery outcome-based research, where she was proficient in publications on various topics of concern in pediatric surgery. She went on to complete a pediatric surgery fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University School of Medicine. During her training, she received many awards and recognitions, including the Edward M. Copeland Award, Rosenkrantz Award – Honorable Mention and the IRCAD award. Dr. Laituri held faculty positions at the University of South Florida as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. She joined the medical staff at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in 2016. She remains a fellow of the American Pediatric Surgical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics. She also is a member of multiple professional organizations. Dr. Laituri enjoys caring for children with complex congenital anomalies and neonatal diseases, performing oncologic surgery, chest wall deformity surgery, minimally invasive surgery and caring for the traumatically injured child. She believes in the adage "baby steps", meaning baby steps towards progress, baby steps towards getting better, and helping families take those baby steps together towards healing. "
