Dr. Roman's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Roman "Cardiac Electrophysiologist Carlos A. Román, MD, FACC was inspired to pursue medicine by Dr. Christiaan Barnard who performed the world's first successful heart transplant. Dr. Román chose to specialize in cardiology largely because of his mother?s cardiac problems. He has been practicing cardiac electrophysiology at Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio since 1994. Dr. Román received a Bachelor?s degree from American School of Guayaquil in Guayaquil, Ecuador before completing medical school at Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil. He completed his internship and residency at University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals in Miami, Florida where he met the noted Cuban cardiac electrophysiologist, professor and researcher, Agustín Castellanos. I had heard about him and had read many of his publications, but I couldn?t believe I met him! And he was the nicest guy on earth!" says Dr. Román. Dr. Castellanos inspired Dr. Roman to pursue a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology, which, at the time, was a field still in its infancy. Dr. Román completed his fellowships in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After completing his fellowships, Dr. Román served as assistant professor of medicine at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas for two years before joining Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio. Dr. Román is board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the Heart Rhythm Society and American Medical Association.""
