Dr. Carlos Lopez earned his Medical Doctor degree from the New York University School of Medicine after graduating magna cum laude in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He completed a General Surgery Internship at the University of Chicago and then completed his Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Michigan where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident. During his Radiation Oncology Residency he received an award in the Resident Research Competition from the Michigan Society of Therapeutic Radiologists and Oncologists, a Radiation Research Society Student-in-Training Travel Award and an ASTRO Travel Grant for the Health Services/Outcomes Research in Oncology. Dr. Lopez is the author of numerous journal publications in both basic science and clinical research. His areas of interest include radiosensitizing agents in glioblastoma , concurrent radiochemotherapy in head and neck cancers, a model of hepatic colorectal oligometastases, radiation dose escalation in inoperable/unresectable non-small cell lung cancers, antitumor effects of a novel agent combination in squamous cell carcinoma, and chemoinductible gene therapy. In addition, he has presented at professional conferences on multiple tumor sites including prostate, lung, head and neck, esophagus, colon, and brain. Dr. Lopez is trained in the following forms of radiation therapy: 3D CRT, IMRT, IGRT, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, LINAC-based Radiosurgery, high-dose-rate Brachytherapy, low-dose-rate Brachytherapy and SBRT. Dr. Lopez is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Brachytherapy Society, the Radiological Society of North America, and the American Medical Association.
