Dr. Kroll attended medical school at the University of Virginia, where he was awarded the William Herndon scholarship for leadership in medicine. Afterwards he completed an Internal Medicine internship at the Medical College of Virginia and then entered the Air Force as a flight surgeon. He was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, NC for four years. While there he deployed to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in 2007 for 6 months, where he served as commander of the flight medicine clinic. While in the Air Force he received a Commendation Medal for meritorious service and an Iraq Campaign Medal for his service triaging causalities in Iraq. He also flew on 7 combat missions into Iraq to help evacuate wounded soldiers. He left the Air Force in 2010 and started an Anesthesiology residency at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital. While a resident he published a book chapter on addiction in the chronic pain patient and wrote a paper on clinical predictors of success in superior hypogastric plexus blocks published in a peer reviewed journal. His fellowship was at Johns Hopkins University in Pain Management.
