I gave 2 chances. First time, the Doctor was unavailable because he had a surgery. Why they would schedule appointments when he has surgery makes no sense. So I met with a PA. I started PT and followed up with Xrays which were never discussed with me. My second appointment was once again, derailed by the good doctor being in surgery. This time they asked me to wait for 30 minutes or so, while he was in surgery. The problem is a doctor that doesn't care one iota about MY Schedule ( I am very busy myself) and schedules appointments then does not show. I want to see THE DOCTOR, not a PA or Nurse or anyone else. Plenty of doctors schedule days for surgery and days in the office. Apparantely the good doctor just prioritizes surgery, whenever that may pop up, and let's his patients either wait or reschedule or talk to someone else. Anyway, I'll be looking for another doctor that actually respects his patients time as much as his own!

Getting an appointment was quick and easy. The ladies I spoke with were all very professional, friendly, and helpful, whether it was a phone call or in-person visits. Being able to complete paperwork online before going to the office was convenient as well. Dr. McHugh was very professional and gave a clear and honest opinion and plan moving forward.

Dr. McHugh treated me for a broken foot and I was extremely impressed with his professionalism and knowledge base. He was always available whenever I needed him and as was the staff. I had no issues at all with getting an appointment when I needed to and being seen quickly.

I have not yet seen Dr. McHugh, but I just wanted to leave a review about scheduling a first appointment. I called and left a message. About 30 minutes later, I received a return call. The scheduler (sorry, but I forgot his name), did his best to accommodate me. After several minutes of discussion, we worked out a time for the following week. I was extremely pleased and do not understand why there were such negative comments.

Dealing with Dr.McHugh's office is so impossible that after 3 weeks I gave up trying to make an appointment. The number of calls that they completely ignored was unbelieveable. It would be terrible to actually need them in any kind of critical situation. Inova Health Care should be embarrassed to have them associated with their name.

I'm sad to see--but not surprised at all, unfortunately--that others have also had terrible experiences with this neurosurgeon and his awful "staff." It's unacceptable to operate on a patient's spine and then conveniently be unreachable to that patient--especially in the event of an emergency that could have easily rendered me fully paralyzed -despite a dozen messages left on various voicemail boxes (thanks to their ridiculous phone/voicemail set-up) with not a single call returned for 2 weeks!

I was referred by my neurologist since there had been changes to my lower back. He spent time with me and my wife going over the previous emergency surgery, reviewed my current MRI and felt that it was a wait and see. One week later he called after further review of the current MRI on a larger format and found that a minor outpatient surgery was needed in order to relieve pressure on a nerve for the right leg. He was very thorough in explaining the procedure.

I think the Dr himself seems competent, caring and helpful. Unfortunately every other part of the organization is terrible. The level of stress and frustration in dealing with this practice is beyond belief, and I have dealt with a lot of doctors offices. The phone systems and the way they handle appointments and follow up is abhorrent. Also, there is no way to have a follow email or phone call with dr if you have questions. This practice should be ashamed of themselves.

I was very impressed with Dr. McHugh, he made me feel that I had finally found a doctor who was taking an interest and would guide me in the right direction. He promised to contact me later that day or the next with the results of his discussions about my case. It has been 3 weeks and I have called almost every day and neither he or his nurse has calledl me back. I am terribly disappointed. I wonder if he is aware of my attempts to reach him.
