This content was provided by Dr. Magovern "Helping my patients get better in the safest and quickest way possible is my priority as an orthopedic doctor. I'm passionate about making sure each patient gets my full attention. I take a thorough health history, perform an examination, and usually take open MRI or x-ray images. I also get to know what types of treatments each of my patients is comfortable with and what their goals are for healing. It's only once I get the full picture that the two of us can agree what kind of treatment will be the best for that particular person. In most cases, a custom program including physical therapy, medications, injections or other non-surgical approaches is enough to return them to health. I find that only a small percentage of my patients actually need surgery. No matter what type of treatment they need, helping people get their lives back after an injury or long-suffering from chronic pain is my favorite part of being a doctor. It's what drew me to the field—knowing that I could really make a difference in a lot of people's lives. I see worried family members come in needing answers for their injured loved ones, and the faster I can begin to solve their problems, the better it is for their peace mind. I respect what they're going through, so I stay current in all the latest orthopedic medical advances, including in my specialty, the shoulder and elbow areas."
This content was provided by Dr. Magovern "I treat each of my patients as individuals because everyone has different needs and levels of comfort when they're at the doctor. Years of experience and specialized training and education have taught me to start without assumptions each time a patient comes through the door. It means listening and looking very carefully before moving forward.
I'm board certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship trained in the shoulder and elbow areas. Because I focused on one of the more complex areas of the body, I bring a "puzzle-solving" mentality to each patient's orthopedic problem, no matter which part of the body is affected. I'm able to look at it from different viewpoints and offer the best solution possible, not just the "standard" solution.
I'm also the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. This has given me thousands of opportunities to hone my surgical and non-surgical skills."
