Dr. Flowers' bio
This content was provided by Dr. Flowers "Dr. Flowers joined OA in 1998 after completing his glaucoma fellowship in San Francisco. He considers it a privilege to have trained under many of the leading glaucoma specialists in the country. Upon settling in Tarrant County, he brought a multitude of advancements in Glaucoma care with him. Over the years Dr. Flowers has remained at the forefront of Glaucoma diagnosis and treatment and is responsible for bringing much of the latest in technology to our area. These firsts include measuring corneal thickness to accurately measure intraocular pressure, the first optic nerve head analyzers, endoscopic laser surgery, non scarring selective laser trabeculoplasty, and most recently, non penetrating (minimally invasive) glaucoma surgery (canaloplasty). These represent nearly every advancement in glaucoma care that has occurred over the past 15 years. In his relatively young career, he has already received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2006. He has given over 100 lectures nationally and internationally. These include over 15 invited lectures at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), addressing the American Glaucoma Society and numerous other invited lectures at major national and international meetings. He served 3 years on the glaucoma program committee for the AAO annual meeting, as well as being the moderator of the glaucoma section at the 2006 AAO annual meeting. He has also been a reviewer for the instruction courses for the AAO annual meeting since 2001. Dr. Flowers is an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, the body that grants board certification to Ophthalmologists. Dr Flowers is active in research, and has published 18 papers and abstracts in major medical journals and meetings. He has conducted 9 clinical research trials at OA and is invited to participate in most ongoing trials. These trials can provide access to new treatments not currently available to the general public. He is also a reviewer for several medical journals including The Journal of Glaucoma. Dr. Flowers also sits on the Patient Care Committee of the American Glaucoma Society "At Johns Hopkins the medical students were taught that there were 3 facets to being a physician-leader. Those three words appear on the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine crest: Teaching, Research, and Patient Care. Thus, I view all 3 as important to being a complete physician. Help expand what is known in your field, provide those new developments for your patients, and the then teach them to your colleagues." Dr. Flowers enjoys providing the latest in glaucoma care to his patients in a relaxed and friendly environment. Dr. Flowers has been married to Julia Flowers, MD for 12 years and they have 3 children. Dr. Flowers enjoys tennis, and as a youth was ranked 7th in the US in singles and as the number 1 doubles player in the country. He also enjoys golf, music, travel, and spending time with his family.Dr. Flowers is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, American Medical Association, Tarrant County Medical Society, and Tarrant County Ophthalmology Society."
